The World Was Young // Outfit Post

It's hard to believe that it is the 11th and this is only my first post of the month! I have been under so many school-related deadlines that I haven't had time to take outfit pictures or blog lately, but I'm going to be more regular in the future. Starting in May.

 

Just kidding.

 

Sort of. ☺


 

Anyway, for my first formal speech this year on Tuesday, I had to dress "professionally", so I channeled my inner businesswoman and matched my dress to my jacket and my belt to my shoes. When I got to school, my hair was clipped up (as you can see in these pictures), but one of the girls in my theatre class French-braided it for a performance, and I left it up for the rest of the day. I LOVE having my hair braided, and I can't do it myself, so whenever someone offers, I'm like YES.

Sweeter Than Fiction // Outfit Post

So, in recent news, my grandmother and great-aunt Linda are visiting this week from Knoxville! Yesterday we all piled into my mom's car and took them to see some of the quintessential Southport spots-- including the waterfront park, where I'm sitting in the picture below.

 

I rarely ever do this, but I changed three times over the course of the day yesterday. I wore a dress and a denim jacket to church, changed into a t-shirt and shorts when we got home, and then changed again before going out in the evening. Anyway... eventually I ended up in this sleeveless sweater by Scott Taylor, my dark denim shorts, and faux leather flip-flops, along with the beaded necklace my uncle got my mom in Afghanistan and my prescription sunglasses. So everything worked out.

 

My dad called me a blonde Jackie the other day and I am still basking in the glow... :) My inspiration for this outfit came from some pictures of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O on island vacations... they even made casual wear look chic! Geek Chic // Outfit Post

It's Wednesday! And for me, that means there are only two more days until my family and I load up the car and head to Tennessee. My parents are going on a business trip and my brother and I will be staying with relatives. I'm excited to see my family and friends in TN again :)

Today's outfit is in honor of a certain Gwen Stacy from a certain incredibly successful movie franchise. The Amazing Spiderman 2 just came out in theaters, and as I am planning to see it within the next week or so, I decided to pay tribute to Gwen with this look.

 

Gwen Stacy wears very polished clothing that has a sophisticated, schoolgirl vibe. This outfit is modeled after the fashion in the first movie, but I'm looking forward to seeing how her style has developed in the second one.

I channeled my inner schoolgirl with a collared shirt with a simple grey skirt, similar to the one Gwen wears in the movie. Her shoes are very simple but sleek, so I went with these black, Oxford-esque shoes that have a chunky little heel and paired them with matching socks.

 

In almost every scene in the movie (with a few exceptions, of course), Gwen wears her platinum-blond hair in a bouncy ponytail with blunt bangs. I wasn't going to have my bangs cut just for the sake of this look, but I did pull my hair back and smooth back the top-- simple and classy.

 

Her makeup is pretty natural, other than the occasional winged eyeliner, so I focused on the eyes and then just lined and colored my lips. Light foundation & blush.

 

This ended up being more of a tutorial on a Gwen Stacy look! Oh, well, I like it :)

Walk On the Water // Outfit Post

It's Saturday! And I don't know about where you live, but here in Southport, NC, it is also the last day of spring break. Now, I'm home-schooled, but I know this because a) the beach/downtown area is starting to get much more crowded, and b) everyone I know from youth was off this week. :)



Today I'm wearing layered tank tops with a three-quarter length cardi and cuffed skinnies. While I was getting dressed, I just fell into the whole black-and-white thing, which I like, despite the fact that it doesn't do as much for my fair complexion as other colors. The right makeup helps, though.

 

These platform wedges are deceptively taller than they look, and while wedges are supposed to be easy heels to walk in, I still tripped a couple times. [I don't think I'm supposed to tell you that, but it's true! Anyway, I tried to be discreet about it. :) ]

Mom, Jeffrey, and I went to the part of the beach right in front of the Oak Island Lighthouse. It's 143 feet tall! (And yes I had to look that up for posting it on here.) Cool right? I'm thankful my mom drives us all around town to do fun stuff. Hashtag MyFamilyRocks.

One of my favorite quotes by Mother Teresa is, "What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family." And isn't that something we all could be better at? It's such a great opportunity to LOVE others (which is MASSIVELY important!) and it's right at our fingertips, on a regular (if not daily) basis. I know I for one am generally better with other people's little kids than I am with my brother... but I want that to change. And this last picture... this... this is what I want. And it is beautiful.
